According to Sportitalia transfer specialist Alfredo Pedullà, Napoli has reached a personal agreement with Jonathan David, but the potential deal is currently on hold. This delay is reportedly due to different tactical requirements from their newly appointed coach, Antonio Conte.
The Canadian forward, whose contract with Lille is said to be running down, has garnered significant interest from several prominent clubs across Europe, including Juventus, Inter, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Barcelona.
Multiple sources, including the Corriere dello Sport, had previously stated that David had chosen Napoli and agreed upon personal terms, with reports suggesting total compensation covering wages, bonuses, and agent fees could exceed €30 million.
However, Pedullà now reports that the Partenopei`s hesitation over the past 48 hours stems from the fact that the initial agreement with David was made under the assumption that Conte might not take the coaching role.
With Conte now seemingly committed to remaining, his tactical vision necessitates a different type of striker – specifically, a tall and powerful figure capable of performing a role similar to that of Romelu Lukaku in his previous teams.
This apparent shift in preference suggests that Napoli might now look towards players like Ange-Yoan Bonny from Parma or Lorenzo Lucca of Udinese, who are also considered significantly less expensive alternatives.
The report also includes the surprising claim that Napoli has secured Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City on a free transfer.
